Aditi Patankar: No one forces you to believe or follow anything on social media

There is a general perception that people often try to project false lives and ideas on social media. However, Mrs India Singapore and Formula Racer Aditi Patankar Gupta says that it is up to people to see what they want to accept. “No one forces you to follow something that you don’t like but your curiosity just helps you in accepting these real and fake facts projected on social life. I don’t really feel it is a double standard but it is a way of content management and an individual choice which many of us can balance well. What to believe and what not to relies on an individual after all,” she says.

Even the amount of posts and engagement is a very personal choice and should remain this way, says Aditi. “As I said, it is an individual choice for an actor or celebrity to manage these platforms and social channels but not burden themselves with the compulsion of content. It should be alright to detox yourself from social channels once in a while for re-energising yourself and for mental health. Not everyone can take the load of pushing content every now and then. At times, less is more!” she says.

She also has a very balanced approach when it comes to social media. “There are ample national and international celebrities that I follow but I don’t really go overboard with following them. Social media has created a fabulous eco-system, which, if utilised in the right sense, the exchange of information does wonders! Be it creating overnight stars, fundraising for social causes, a support system for many underprivileged and much more, to educate the audience virtually. Social media, unfortunately, does not have rules to own. It’s people’s creation for the people and needs to be given decent attention for the upliftment of the society for a better future of the youth,” she says.
